Mother faces life in prison or death penalty for daughter's murder | Crime
A woman who pleaded guilty to killing her 15-year-old daughter faces a jury charged with answering this question:
Should Angela McAnulty go to prison for life - or face the death penalty?
The sentencing phase began Thursday for the mother of Jeanette Maples, who died in December 2009 as the result of "intentionally maiming and torturing" the girl, according to charging documents.
Angela McAnulty pleaded guilty on the opening day of her criminal trial on murder charges, causing the court to shift gears to the penalty phase.
Angela's husband Richard McAnulty is scheduled to go to trial in May. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty against him.
